A chronicle of our preposterous journey to grow wine grapes and make wine in the west of Ireland, where the mountains come down to the sea along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Wine tasting in Galicia
Carolina and Maria arranged for us to taste some wines that Paco & Lola produces that we might not have experienced yet. We started with the Follas Novas which predates the Paco & Lola brand. It's the wine that the growers are fond of and true to. It had an interesting zing to it. The Paco & Lola is smoother, less acidic. But it has a really interesting hint of nuttiness on my palate.
Next, we tried the Prime which Alex and I both loved. A notch above the signature brand in smoothness and creaminess on the palate. We went home with a few bottles of that.
Finally, we tried the 2013 Vintage, which was truly refreshing. A lovely citrusy Albarino. Both Maria and Carolina said it was really good but the 2012 was great. Alas, it had sold out. If we ever find it, we're supposed to buy it.
We learned that the Lola brand is their average drinking brand for young wine enthusiasts, just getting the hang of drinking wine. The P&L brand is the mainsteam upscale brand. And the Vintage is targetted at older connoisseurs who might be less attracted to polka dots but respect a traditional label.
They also have a couple of red wines from a different region and a cava. But the one I am waiting for is the Rias Baixas sparkling Albarino.
Too bad we were walking from the taxi stand to the boat or we would have bought a lot more wine.
