Alex has almost completed the overhead pergola construction under the first 10 vines that reach 5 years of age this year. A few days ago, he cemented in the major support posts. On Saturday, he installed the cross poles. Very elegantly bent to shape so the tractor-that-we-do-not-yet-have can get around the corner.
Today, another beautiful and dry day in the usually wet wild west of Ireland, Alex strung the wire that will support the vines as they grow. Now we just have to train them in the right direction. Meanwhile, the flower clusters are forming rapidly, and it's getting exciting.
I also just ordered the starting equipment, high-end winemaking yeast, and two books on how to make wine. My summer project. And today a great omen. On World Bee Day, the native Irish black honey bees arrived in force. And a solitary bee larva hatched in a box of sand we had. There's hope!
